How To: Update Nokia N95 8GB Product Codes For Changing Language Packs

Update your Nokia N95 8GB to a firmware with your preferred language pack by changing the product code on your phone. Updating your Nokia N95 8GB to the latest firmware, and/or changing the language pack is similar to the guide I wrote earlier on changing the product codes in the Nokia N95-1. If you are a new Nokia N95 8GB owner, this might be helpful if you want a different language pack in your new phone.

Download and install: Nemesis Service Suite and the latest Nokia Software Update.

  1. Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
  2. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click "Scan for new device" on the right-upper part of the window
  3. Click on the icon "Phone info"
  4. Click on "Scan"
  5. Change the product code to the one you want from the list below.
  6. Mark the case "Enable".
  7. Press "Write", and your phone's product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don't worry, the product code changed !).
  8. Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
  9. Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
  10. That's it! When you restart your phone, it should now be upgraded!

How To Sign Your Symbian Application

The guide below is ONLY for members who already have a cert from symbiansigned and only questions about this can be posted here...

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you get a date or expiration error when trying to install an app that you dev-signed, make sure that the date format on your device (Tools -> Settings -> Date and Time -> Date format) is "dd mm yyyy"! Also see Catmark's post for more info.

More and more developers are openly providing unsigned beta applications on their sites. Examples are rotateMe, TaskSpy, and of course FExplorer.

DZed posted an incredible guide over on the Go Symbian Forum teaching the masses how to sign an unsigned SIS file. As most of you know, S60 3rd apps must be signed in order to be installed on a device.

Despite this guide, many people are still having troubles when attempting to sign a sis file. As such, I've compiled a slightly ammended guide that should clear up all of the question marks with regards to Symbian signing. Of course, all credit goes to DZed and Team 3G365...

Note: In this guide I will be signing an app called "xyz" as an example. When you sign a real app, simply substitute "xyz" with the actual app name.

TOOLS

1. SignSIS Files

2. Register an account on
Code:
http://www.symbiansigned.com
3. DevCertRequest Tool

3.This one is vital:
Code:
 https://www.symbiansigned.com/DevCertRequest_30_10_2006_v2.0.exe

GUIDE

1. Create a new folder on your desktop containing the unsigned SIS and the two files from signsis_files.zip.

2. Open the DevCertRequest tool that you downloaded and installed as per item 3 above under Tools.

You must now create a name and an output directory for the cert request you will be creating. Give it any name and choose the folder that you created in step 1 for the output directory. Then hit next.

3. On the next screen, check No. Then next to "Private key file" browse to the folder you created in step 1 and give your key file the same name you've been using. Then click on Open.

4. Make the password 0123456 and then re-enter it.

5. Populate the required fields on the next screen with any data and then click next.

6. Now you will have to add your device's IMEI number to the cert. Follow the guide in the image below and if you do not know your device's IMEI, enter *#06# on your device in the standby screen.

7. Highlight all of the "Application Capabilities" and click Add.

8. On the final screen simply click Finish.

9. You will now see four new files in the folder you created in step 1.

10. Now go to www.symbiansigned.com and log in.

11. Click on the "My Symbian Signed" tab, then click on "Developer Certificates".

12. Click "Request" under "Developer Certificates". Then browse to the CSR file in the folder you created in step 1.

Once the CSR is uploaded, simply click on "My DevCerts" in the menu on the left and you will see a link to download your newly created certificate (CER file). Save it in the folder you created in step 1.

You now have everything you need to sign your SIS file.

Open auto_signsis.bat in MS Notepad. You will see that is currently contains the following:

Code:
signsis xyz.sis xyz_signed.sis xyz.cer xyz.key 12345
Replace every "xyz" as appropriate. So if your unsigned file (and all of the files you named above) is called "MyApp", then the text in the batch file should read:

Code:
signsis MyApp.sis MyApp_signed.sis MyApp.cer MyApp.key 12345
Save the batch file (choose Save, not Save As) and exit.

Now just go back to the folder you created in step 1 and double-click on auto_signsis.bat. Your newly signed SIS file will be created in the same folder for you to install and enjoy.

READ BEFORE ASKING ANYTHING!

How to Hard Reset Your Pocket PC

Introduction

"How do I hard reset my [insert PDA here]?"

As sad as it may sound, there will come a time when you have to hard (or full) reset your Pocket PC. To hard reset a device means to restore the device back to it's original settings, just like it was when it came out of the box. You usually need to hard reset the device when you are having problems that a simple soft reset will not fix, if you want to sell the device and clear all your personal information off of it, or if you just feel lucky. There are a few things to note before completing this task. For one, make sure you truly want to do a hard reset. Back up all your information just in case you feel like you want to take a step back. Secondly, understand that even if you do a hard reset information in the ROM (on iPAQs it's known as the iPAQ File Store) will still exist. You'll want to delete this information manually if needed. Third, if you are trying to hard reset your device because you forgot your password, some device will have the password stick even after a hard reset. To truly get past this you will have to enter the password incorrectly or answer hints incorrectly a certain amount of times before it commits to a self-destruct process performing a hard reset on itself. And lastly, we here at Pocket PC Addict care about our Addicts, but we unfortunately cannot take responsibility for anything that you do. Please do this at your own risk.

The Process
Okay, after you've read all that you're probably too tired to do a soft reset on your device. If you're like me you probably skipped all the jibber jabber just to get to the meat of the article which would be here. This article will be updated regularly as devices become available.
